Unite or divide, it's our choice

There is an old saying -- "A chain is only as strong as its weakest link." As it is today, our country's problems demonstrate that truth, even within our government.Republicans attack Democrats and the Democrats attack the Republicans. No longer is there respect for those who do not agree with the views of others, although many who fight for that freedom are the very same ones who hate the most and scream the loudest.No longer are people willing to sit down and discuss solutions in a civilized manner, as to what is best for our country as a whole. Rather, they choose to waste that time digging up garbage on the opposing party.
We no longer have people who are willing to fight for what is right, but rather they are willing to fight for what they think will gain them the most popularity at election time. Some are willing to compromise their own souls and personal convictions for the sake of a vote, which leaves me very suspicious as to what they would be willing to compromise for our safety. The one thing that frightens me most is a candidate who will say, "Personally, I am against this ... but people have the right." Actually, all people have free will and that was given at birth by God and not the government. But with all the choices, there are consequences which, if left unpunished here, will be dealt with hereafter. And those of us who know that something is wrong, but do nothing to discourage it or stop it, will be held responsible for those choices, too.In our own country, people are not even safe within the confines of their own homes, driving in certain areas, at work or even taking a walk around the block. Rapes, murders, kidnappings, arsons, child abuse, etc., occur day after day. When we see the violence that prevails in our own cities, we see "war" in action right here. The difference between our soldiers who fight so courageously overseas and the citizens here in America is that our soldiers are united and will risk their lives to defend their brothers. We are divided and worry only about protecting ourselves and our own. The soldiers are willing to sacrifice and risk their lives for our freedom and safety, and yet we complain if we don't see the war helping us economically.This is the United States of America. We should feel proud to have the opportunities that we do. We should be proud that our brave men and women are helping other countries build a democratic nation, also. Besides, if we lived under Saddam Hussein's regime and another country made these sacrifices and voluntarily risked lives to come in and free us from that terror, most of us would be convinced that God sent angels to rescue us. Unfortunately, far too many Americans won't look beyond their own pocketbooks.We can decide to work together and unite or we can continue to wage war on each other right here. We can stand with our government and support it or we can continue to allow our bickering to entertain our enemies, as they watch us continue to destroy each other. Could it be fear that keeps them fighting to prevent democracy?
